Who to dress as

Rapunzel and Tangled offer a few easy choices for both children and adults. Pick the character that suits the person wearing it, and the occasion.

• Rapunzel: the most popular choice for children, and a good one for adults at a party or Book Week.
• Flynn Rider (Eugene): works well for teenagers and adults. Also good for a child who wants something less fancy.
• Mother Gothel: a strong choice for an adult who likes a dramatic villain.
• Pascal: a small green chameleon, and a fun idea for a toddler or a pet-loving child.

The pieces that make each one recognisable

Rapunzel is known for very long golden hair, often worn in a braid. Add a purple dress with a laced bodice and short sleeves. She is usually barefoot, so plain flat shoes or bare feet both work.

Flynn Rider needs a brown vest over a cream shirt with laced cuffs, plus dark trousers and boots. A satchel finishes it.

Mother Gothel wears a deep red and burgundy gown with a dark cloak and long curly dark hair.

Pascal is mostly green. Add a curled tail and a wide-eyed face.

Finishing touches to make at home

• Flower crown or hair flowers: use paper or fabric flowers on a plain headband. Small painted flowers on a hairclip also work.
• A frying pan prop: a cardboard cut-out pan painted dark grey is light and safe to carry. It suits Rapunzel or Flynn.

If you use face paint for Pascal, do a small skin test first.

Choosing a size

Check the size chart on the label or listing and measure the wearer. If a child is between sizes, the larger one is usually easier, as hems can be pinned up.
